weekly update

Writing:

We are still working on informational books, but everyone is kind of in a different spot. By Friday the second graders had to have at least their introduction and two chapters done. Some of the students finished their books this week and are off planning their next. Others did just what was assigned, and that's ok too. Check in with your second grader and find out his or her topic and how far they are on their book. As a class next week we will talk about conclusions and special informational features. 

Math:

So tests didn't make it home last week. Sorry about that! Everyone has finished and we got a chance to go over them as a class, so they are coming home on Monday! Next week we will be using number lines to add two digit numbers. You will see that this skill was on the last test but not graded. Talk over number lines with your second grader and how they could be helpful for adding big numbers. By the end of the week your second grader should have some great strategies in his or her math "toolkit" for using them!

Reading:

These kids are super star readers! We have been exploring strategies for solving tricky words and they really know what to do! Last week some reading partners in our class solved a really tricky multisyllable word and shared it with Mrs Stefanich. She loved it so much that she is using it as the Word of the Week this week!

Phonics:

Last week we spent some time reviewing "troublemaker" words. These words are all high frequency words that are tricky to spell. We played games with partners and as a class. We also played a fun Wordle style game that you can find in Google Classroom or here: Flippity Next week we will review word endings and how words change when common endings are added..

Holiday Countdown:

We are counting down to our winter vacation from school!  Each day we are doing a different activity to help countdown to our Winter Break.  Only 10 more days of school left!

Homework:

The math paper is due by Friday, December 16.

Extra Information:

December 16- Early Release Day

December 18: Holiday Shop.  Kids who bring in money, can come down and pick some gifts out for their loved ones on this day.  More information will be coming out about this!

December 22: Holiday Party- We will be doing things throughout the day, instead of one chunk of time to celebrate. If you would be willing to send in a drink or snack just shoot me an email! Thanks!
