weekly update

Writing:

The second graders are still working on their non-fiction pieces.  So far we everyone has written an introduction, and is working on a first chapter.  The second graders are making sure to include bold words, and captions next to their photograph.  Next week we will work on finishing up chapters. Ask your child what their topic is about, and what their chapters will be.

Math:

We finished our unit on time and measurement, and the second graders took a test last week. We will look it over as a class and it will come home in folders early this week. Next week we will wrap up Unit 2 with a review of graphing and counting by twos. Since we started a new month we have started a new math calendar. This month we will be focused on shapes.

Reading:
We have been revisiting and reviewing all the ways we know to solve tricky words in a mini-unit called Growing Word Solving Muscles. The second graders have been working with partners and coaching each other through unfamiliar, multisyllabic words. They have been doing a great job coaching each other and helping their classmates figure out tricky words.

SEL:

We learned all about the word acceptance this week. There was an optional homework paper that came home for you to use to talk to your child about a time you have felt accepted.  On back of this optional homework is an exercise we did in class where the second graders wrote about times they feel accepted at school.

Homework:

The math sheet is due by next Friday, December 8th.
