weekly update

Writing:

Friday the second graders all wrote postcards! Ask your second grader who they wrote to and if you should be checking your mailbox! Next week we will continue writing letters about books. We are also going to continue writing valentines in class. Valentine's day is coming sooner then we think!!

Math:

We are going to continue working with money during math.  Please help your child practice counting money at home, and tell you the value of each coin.

Phonics:

We are continuing to learn from animals.  We learned that we need to drop the e before adding an ing or an ed to the end.  We are also going to learn when to use an s or an es to make words become plural.

Reading/Social Studies:

We are reading about social studies during reading.  We are learning why we need local governments, and even will start taking a stand on different social issues (should we have candy at parades?  Our view about helmets while riding bikes.  How can we take care of our water when we see garbage in it.)  This will tie in perfectly with our opinion writing as well.

Homework:

The two-sided math paper is due by Friday, January 31.
