Writing:
The second graders wrote one more movie review. We really focused on transitions and restating the main idea. We also talked a lot about mechanics. This is the time of year we see so many of those capital letter and punctuation mistakes diminish as the second graders look more critically at their work. I posted some of the reviews the kids wrote so you can read them. I had the second grader read me his or her review as I typed, but not everyone wanted their reviews typed out. Click here (Persuasive Reviews) to see if your second grader chose to publish his or her review: Persuasive Reviews
Math:
We are learning all kinds of shapes in our geometry unit in math. We are learning about triangles, quadrilaterals, and hexagons. We also explored area and fractions last week. Next week we start a new Number Corner where we will practice subtraction across three digits and count money as well as continue our exploration of shapes.

We visited the Starbooks Cafe on Friday! Our room was transformed into a book cafe where the kids could move around and get a taste of different book series. This week we built on last week's work with book club behaviors. We practiced having book club discussions with books we read as a class. This way the second graders will know just what to do when they meet independently and talk about their own books next week.
