weekly update

Writing:

The kids are doing awesome with writing reviews.  Everyone finished a Restaurant review this week, some finished two!! Those that finished two got to choose which one was the best and then started typing them into a Google doc so it can eventually be published on our blog! We will write book reviews next.

Math:

We have been doing so much measuring in our classroom! We have learned to measure with inches, feet, and yards.  See if your child knows how many inches are in a foot, and how many feet are in a yard.

Phonics:

In our latest assignment for the BLC Word Construction Company we are building a long vowel manual. We are exploring the many different ways to spell long vowel sounds. This week we worked on filling out the long vowel manual for the long A, E, and I sounds.  We learned some usual and unusual spelling patterns, as well as some tips to help spellers know which pattern to use. For example if you hear a long e or long i sound at the end of a word, try spelling it with a y.

Reading:

This week our reading lessons were all about fluency. We read tongue-twisters to build fluency. Then we talked about reading the way the author intended using dialogue tags and also our understanding of what is going on in the story. Next week we will work on retelling.

SEL:

We studied the feeling word cheerful this week. It was fun pointing out all the ways we can be cheer each other up and cheer each other on and be cheerful in class. We also talked about how cheering for each other can make others feel included and promote a sense of belonging that we want in our classroom.
