Remember there is no school Monday! Teachers will be in meetings all day, but I hope you are able to get out and enjoy the great Fall weather!
Reading
The second graders have been continuing their work in informational reading. We went on a non-fiction feature scavenger hunt this week! We also continued our work by looking at other text structures beyond main idea and details but reading some passages that talked about cause and effect.
Writing
We are almost all done writing our informational books! Next week we will be finishing up current books, reviewing all we have learned so far, graphing our pre-test data, and setting a goal. Then the second graders will write a mid-unit "test". This will be a mini-book that write completely independently that Miss Greydanus and I can grade and give feedback on. It's going to be a busy four day week in writing!
Math
The second graders took their unit 2 test this week. A few students have to finish up and then we will do some conferring and goal setting before the tests get sent home. They will hopefully be in mailboxes by Thursday!
Social Studies and Phonics
Unit 2 is all wrapped up in social studies as well. The second graders had a lot of fun making maps and learning about communities. Next week we will start a seven lesson mini-unit in phonics which is about word patterns and rhyme.
